What is the average cost to elope in Colorado?
Costs can vary widely depending on the type of experience you’re looking for. Travel, lodging, food & entertainment, and vendors are some of the higher ticket items to consider.
The elopement itself is very affordable! A Colorado marriage license costs just $30 and many of the locations in this guide are completely free. Some locations such as Rocky Mountain National Park require reservations and parking permits. These fees can range from a $5 permit to $300 reservation charge.

From the easily accessible shores of Maroon Lake to more adventurous hikes like Crater Lake, every corner of the Maroon Bells is a photographer’s dream, offering a variety of breathtaking spots for an unforgettable ceremony.

Guanella Pass
If you’re looking for wide-open alpine meadows, a small lake, or views of a 14er for your elopement, you’ve found it. Guanella Pass, at the base of Mt. Bierstadt, is a Colorado favorite. 11,670′ above sea level with several areas and trails to choose from- this location is accessible by car but only during the warmer months. From Thanksgiving to Memorial Day you’ll have to take the skis.

Loveland Pass
Sitting at 11,990′ Loveland Pass offers 360 degree mountain views and an alpine lake without being difficult to access. This pet-friendly location is a short five-minute hike from the parking lot and located between the popular mountain towns of Breckenridge and Georgetown.

Garden of the Gods

Another beautiful mountain pass that sees less traffic but is still easily accessible by car. Hoosier Pass boasts open meadows and colorful leaves in autumn. Trails here allow you to choose how much hiking you’d like to do!

Lake Dillon
Located in Summit County, CO and sitting above 9,000′ Lake Dillon provides a variety of options for elopements and micro-weddings. This area offers beautiful lake views with stunning mountain backdrops and is generally accessible and pet-friendly. Permits are not required for elopement photography but special events and groups should look into reserving a space nearby like Sapphire Point or Windy Point Campground.

Rocky Mountain National Park

These are some of the most important factors to keep in mind while planning your elopement and are often easy to forget!
Elevation
Colorado averages the highest elevation in the country and many of its attractions are above 10,000 feet, start hydrating well before your trip and continue throughout your stay. Give yourself time to acclimate by taking it easy the first day, and consider arriving a day or two early. Light meals, avoiding alcohol, and getting plenty of rest can also help your body adapt to the higher altitude.
Weather
When preparing for Colorado’s weather, be sure to layer your clothing. The weather can change quickly, with mornings and evenings often much cooler than midday, even in the summer. Pack a lightweight jacket or sweater, and don’t forget sunscreen, as the sun can be intense at higher elevations. Be prepared for anything from sunshine to a sudden shower, no matter the season!
